Southern Brooks has over 25 years' experience in Youth Work and offers a range of Youth Work courses accredited by the NOCN awarding body.

We have been recognised as a Centre to deliver NOCN (National Open College Network) Qualifications since October 2008 - NOCN Centre No. 58234.

We currently offer a range of Youth Work courses and qualifications to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to have a career as a youth support worker or a youth and community worker. Our QCF Youth Work qualifications are nationally recognised by employers and educational institutions alike.

When

We are planning on starting delivery of the Youth Work Course, week commencing 11th January 2021.

There will be a mixture of online and face to face sessions. Online sessions will be held via Zoom.

All Zoom sessions (except 1-2-1's) are 3 hours long which will be delivered weekly. Face to face sessions will be delivered over 3.5 days.

Zoom Sessions= 21

Face to Face Sessions= 7 (3.5 full days)

All 1-2-1 sessions will be held via Zoom and will take approximately 15 minutes for each learner.

NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles

The NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles (England) is designed to be an introductory qualification to enable learners to understand the ‘basics’ or principles of working with young people in a range of youth work settings. The qualification does not carry any professional qualification endorsement from ETS England.

The Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice consists of 4 units and the learner must achieve 11 credits to successfully complete this qualification.

You must be over the age of 14 years old to undertake this qualification.

The units include:

· Engaging and Communicating with Young People

· Safeguarding in a Youth Work Setting

· Theory of Youth Work

· Young People's Development

The Level 2 Award will entail 11 taught sessions plus a one to one session between each learner and the tutor.

NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice

The NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice (England) is designed to prepare learners to lead work with young people in a range of youth work settings.

The Level 3 Certificate is suitable for learners who need minimal support. This is for employees who deliver operational youth work and who undertake duties on their own initiative or who have supervisory responsibility for small projects, such as one night a week club. Workers with these responsibilities will receive leadership and operational guidance from professionally qualified youth workers.

You must be over the age of 16 to undertake this qualification.

The Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice consists of 9 units and learners must achieve 27 credits to successfully complete this qualification.

You will need to have a placement in a youth work environment and complete 60 hours of placement whilst studying this course.

The units include all those listed in the Level 2 Award plus:

· Group Work within a Youth Work Setting

· Working with Behaviour that challenges in Youth Work Settings

· Reflective Practice in a Youth Work Setting

· Work-based Practice in Youth Work

· Anti-Discriminatory Practice in Youth Work

Duration: 23 sessions in total plus two one to one sessions between each learner and the tutor (one during the L2 element, one during the L3 element).

NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice

The Level 3 Diploma is suitable for learners who have completed the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice (which is required for those wishing to work as a JNC qualified Youth Support Worker) and wish to extend their knowledge of and skills in specialist subject areas

The Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice consists of 12 units and the learner must achieve 37 credits to successfully complete this qualification.

You must be over the age of 16 to undertake this qualification.

You will need to have a work placement and complete 80 hours of placement whilst studying this course.

The units include all those listed in the Level 2 Award and Level 3 Certificate plus:

· Detached and Outreach Youth Work

· Referrals and Signposting in Youth Work Settings

· Understand how Youth Work supports young people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, transgender or Questioning (LGBTQ+)

Duration: 29 sessions in total plus two one to one sessions between each learner and the tutor (one during the L2 element, one during the L3 element).
