Patchway Green Spaces News

The Patchway Green Spaces Project has two groups that you can get involved with. If you like being outside and learning new skills, then come and check out the Blakeney Rd Community Allotment or The Parade Community Garden. Both groups are looking for new members. Now is the perfect time to get involved as spring has sprung and it’s time to get growing.

The Blakeney Rd Community Allotment group meets on Friday mornings from 10 am – 12 pm. Everyone is welcome. We do activities such as planting, watering and weeding and we always have a cup of tea and a chat.

Some of the fruits, vegetables and herbs that we have growing are rhubarb, strawberries, purple sprouting broccoli, leeks, sage and parsley. The African violets, primroses and forget-me-nots are also in bloom. We will soon be planting tomatoes and dwarf beans but there is lots of space to fill so bring along ideas of what to plant.

The Parade Community Garden group meets on Fridays from 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm. We encourage parents and children to join us after school. If you live on The Parade the garden is right on your doorstep and it’s a great way to meet your neighbours. Some of the fruit, vegetables and herbs that are growing are strawberries, spinach, sage, thyme and parsley. Soon we will plant courgettes, lettuce and anything group members want.

Both groups share everything we grow, and I can vouch that the purple sprouting broccoli is delicious. You don’t need to bring anything because gloves and tools are provided but please wear sturdy shoes.
