Physical Activity Link Workers

Physical Activity Link Workers are jointly run in South Gloucestershire in collaboration with Wesport: www.wesport.org.uk and Southern Brooks. This is part of the ‘Feeling Better in South Glos’ initiative and has been providing support to South Glos residents since since January 2023.

We have two Physical Activity link Workers who take referrals from all GP’s surgeries based in South Gloucestershire.

Main aims of the support is to:

  • Help people move more and feel better if there is a need and enthusiasm to explore physical activity opportunities.
  • Good for body: Potential to relieve some ongoing/ long term medical conditions/ symptoms with increasing physical actively.
  • Good for the mind: sense of purpose and achievement, more energy, focus and motivation, reduces levels of stress, fun, way to make friends.

Eligibility:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Enthusiasm / need to exercise more
  • Resident in South Gloucestershire
  • If you have a serious mental or physical health condition, you will need to have medication and/or support in place before we are able to start working with you.

What you get as part of the support:

  • Depending on capacity and confidence can receive up to 6-8: One- to- One sessions over a 3-month period.
  • Signposting to physical activity (formal or informal opportunities)
  • Personalised guidance
  • Support to individuals to improve physical and mental wellbeing, gently building communities and support networks.
